Event Details
This November, as we recognize those individuals who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, join us for an evening with Nicole Miller, M.S., L.M.T., M.L.D., B.C.T.M.B., to learn how massage therapy supports Veterans who live with the Invisible Service Wound: PTSD.
U.S. Veterans are a strong, healthy, and revered group within our communities. For some, their military experiences result in traumatic incidences and exposures that cause Invisible Services Wounds, such as PTSD, at a higher incidence than civilians. Additionally, subgroups within Veterans, such as women Veterans, experience PTSD at a significantly higher rate compared to civilian peers. This class is an introductory class designed to help massage therapists understand how they can support Veterans on the table and how they can support themselves with further research and learning. The class will focus specifically on methods to avoid episodes of psychological triggers in the massage therapy room while providing patient-centered or client-centered care. It will also serve as a foundation for post-class learning dedicated to advanced methods and techniques for the Veteran patient or client.
Please let me know if this works for you, if not, I welcome your candid reflections.
Note: most writing platforms and dictionaries do not capitalize Veterans. I purposely choose to follow the practices of VSOs such as Clear Path and leaders of organizations such as Earl Fontenot of Wounded Warriors which do so.
