Trauma can be defined and experienced in so many ways: physically and psychologically. As massage therapists, we have the benefit of providing healing-centered care to our clients, many of whom have experienced trauma. LMTs themselves are often survivors, drawn to caregiving work in our own healing processes.
How can we provide trauma-informed and client-centered massage care while also taking care of ourselves? How can we identify indications of trauma in our own behaviors and that of our clients so we can work from a place of balance to provide support and keep our practice sustainable?
